African American History Teacher - Sophie B. Wright Charter School
My Story
My name is Jerome Perkins Jr. and I am a native of New Orleans who hails from the Treme neighborhood. Growing up I had the dreams every other black kid did, which were to go to the league or be some sort of entertainer. As I grew older, I realized those dreams were out of reach and I focused on becoming an educator. The reason I became a teacher is that I wanted to be a positive role model to young black children and offer a different style of teaching. I received my bachelor’s degree from Southern University at New Orleans, I majored in Secondary Education with a minor in History. I currently work at Sophie B. Wright as a 10th-grade African American Studies teacher.
